AOEM Malaysia Dinner and Symposium 2016

The first ever Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Malaysia (AOEM) dinner and symposium was held on the Saturday, 23 April 2016 at the Royal Lake Club in Kuala Lumpur. The event was an opportunity for the AOEM Council members to meet up with fellow Occupational Health practitioners for an informal fellowship and get together. There were many practitioners and also invited guess from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Social Security Organisation, Malaysian Trade Union Congress, and Malaysian Medical Association.

It started off with the talk on “Self-regulation and OSHA – Have Employers Fulfilled their Part of the Bargain for Less Perspective Measures?” by Datuk Shamsudin Bardan, the Executive Director of the Malaysian Employers Federation. It was a controversial presentation from the perspective of Employer where the bottom line is still far more important than ensuring safety and health of its employee. There were many questions and comments from the learned Fellow of the Academy.

The dinner was held at the famous Royal Lake Club’s Bunga Raya Chinese Restaurant.
