12th AOEMM Annual Seminar “Sustaining Health @Work”


The 12th AOEMM Annual Seminar was held on 04 August 2018 at the Alof Kuala Lumpur Sentral. The theme for the seminar was “Sustaining Health @ Work”. The aim of the seminar is to share with the participants the issues sustaining health among workers in Malaysia from the perspective of various stakeholders. The seminar was attended by more than 20 occupational health doctors and physician from all over Malaysia.

The seminar kicked-off with a lecture on Fatigue @Work by Datin Dr Norsayani Yaacob the Occupational Health Advisor of PETRONAS. It was followed with Dr Anza Elias an Occupational Health Specialist from the Sunway Medical Centre sharing her experience in Smoking Cessation @Work. Professor Dr Victor Hoe from the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine of Malaysia spoke on “Silicosis Making a Comeback”. He highlighted silicosis cases among jeans manufacturer workers from Egypt and counter-top manufacturer workers from Italy. This was followed with Dr Wong Chee Kuan a Respiratory Physician from the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya who shared his experience in managing respiratory cases that is related to the workplace in his talk on Breathlessness @Work. The final talk was by Dr Ravi Ramadah the Principal Assistant Director (Medical Care) from the National Drug Agency, Ministry of Home Affairs which gave a talk on Workplace Drug Issue from the ADK perspective.

The last session was a Panel Session discussing on Sustaining Health @Work which was chaired by Dr Abu Hasan Samad the President of AOEMM. The members of the panel session consists of Datin Dr Norsayani, Dr Azlan Darus the Division Head (Prevention, Med. and Rehab. Division), Social Security Organization, Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia, Dr Ahamd Fitri Abdullah Hair the Division Head (Occupational Health Division), Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia, Dr Priya Ragunath the Head Occupational and Environmental Health Sector, Ministry of Health Malaysia and Prof Rusli Nordin from the Jeffery Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia.
